96 Punten - The Wine Advocate
"The red 2021 Manyetes has less alcohol than any other vintage, 13.5% on the label. This is a wine from an extremely warm vineyard, where they harvested earlier (they picked over two passes) and managed to avoid the notes of over-ripeness by using crunchy grapes with lots of energy. This year, they did a big change to preserve the freshness while keeping the black slate character from Cariñena in Priorat, doing a softer vinification, with some 30% full clusters, which is increased in the following years. It has notes of blood, iron and soil and is balanced while keeping the personality. There is a note of freshness, reminiscent of tomato vine, that emerges with time in the glass. One-third of the wine matured in amphorae and the rest in an old foudre, so there's hardly any impact of the oak in the wine. In 2018, it was in barrique, then they moved to foudre, and in 2021, part was unoaked. A new Manyetes."
2021 Clos Mogador Nelin Blanco
96 Punten - The Wine Advocate
"Marking the 20th anniversary of this white wine, the 2021 Nelin was produced with Garnacha Blanca, Macabeo, Xarel.lo and Picapoll white and Cariñena Blanca—in the future, there will be more and more of the last two varieties in the blend, a big change from the beginning. Produced with the juice from the direct pressing, the wine spent one year in oak and six months in tank. It's balsamic, eminently Mediterranean and ripe, with 14% alcohol (a little lower through the change of varieties) and notes of hay and straw, a
romatic herbs and waxy apples. It has volume and density but with the freshness from a cooler year. It's approachable but should develop a lot more complexity with time in bottle. They planted three new hectares of white grapes, so volumes will grow in future years. 10,000 bottles."
2021 Clos Mogador Gratallops Rosat
94 Punten - The Wine Advocate
"The rosé 2021 Gratallops Vi de Villa Rosat was produced with a majority (70% to 80%) in the Planassos part between Mogador and Manyetes of Garnacha, Macabeo and Cariñena plus the grapes from younger vines (Mogador, Nelin...). It has a bright salmon color and a very different and characterful nose, savory, reminiscent of chicken broth (salty!), herbal and super tasty. It's quite direct, with 13.5% alcohol and very good freshness, a bit atypical for Priorat, very long, precise, clean and dry. This matured in a 2,000-liter 10-year-old oak foudre for 18 months. They produced some 3,000 bottles. Brilliant!"
98 Punten - The Wine Advocate
"The eponymous red 2021 Clos Mogador fermented with some 30% full clusters trying to give it more freshness (but without noticing the stems) with a long maceration (40 to 50 days) and (almost) no punching down, with less extraction. There's been a progressive change in the vineyard (they removed the south-facing Cabernet Sauvignon), and they increased Cariñena (around 30%), which in the future will be almost as much as Garnacha. It has aromatic complexity and a beautiful texture. It matured in 2,000-liter oak foudres and a small part in barrel and later in concrete. The wine has 14% alcohol and has the Priorat, Mogador and Mediterranean character (wet slate, graphite, aromatic herbs) with more elegance and freshness. The tannins are also a lot more elegant, and the wine comes through as very balanced. They produced 35,000 bottles of this. It was bottled in June 2023."
94+ Punten - The Wine Advocate
"There is a change in image in the 2021 Com Tu, a village red from La Figuera in Montsant, with a label that is similar to the one from the new rosé, a drawing of the village. They used a high percentage of full clusters, and it matured in an old 5,000-liter foudre for one year and then fine-tuned in concrete. It is super floral and perfumed, completely different from Clos Mogador, with a light extraction, a pale color, and contained ripeness and alcohol (14%), with the sapidity from the limestone soils and very fine chalky tannins. 13,000 bottles produced. They have planted more vines and purchased some older ones to increase the volume in the future."
99 Punten - The Wine Advocate
"The 2021 Espectacle del Montsant has a bright ruby color and a very perfumed and elegant nose with no signs of excess ripeness, with 14.5% alcohol. As 2021 was a much cooler year, the wine is more elegant than ever (following the cooler years like 2014), textured and with very fine tannins. It has an intoxicating nose of red fruit and blood orange, violets and a spicy twist with pungent flavors and a finish that is dominated by violet pastille and is pungent, intense, clean and very long. It's multi-layered, precise, nuanced and ever-changing in the glass. It has to be one of the most elegant and finest vintages of Espectacle, with the natural freshness from the year. Bravo! There are some 7,500 bottles of this elixir."
