Description
Louis Roederer's Cristal champagne is the extremely exclusive champagne that is only made in the best years. Once specially made for the Russian Tsar's court, now appreciated by enthusiasts worldwide.
The grapes come from 4 plots - two in Aÿ, one in Mesnil and one in Avize - all selected for their ripeness and their capacity to develop further. The 2012 Cristal Rosé shows itself magnificently and unfolds in the glass with a beautiful nose of fresh peach, bergamot, strawberries, mandarin and blanched almonds, although it is still quite reserved. On the palate the wine is full, deep and remarkably complete, with a vinous attack that flows into a multi-dimensional core that embodies the ideal of power without weight. All this is built around a lively but integrated backbone of refreshing acidity, complemented by a refined mousse. The concentration of the 2012 vintage is clearly present, but is presented with great finesse. The wine is decidedly young and introverted—I even spent several hours with a bottle to compose this note—but the 2012 will really come into its own with five or six years of cellaring and has all the makings of considerable longevity. It is a blend of 56% Pinot Noir and 44% Chardonnay, without malolactic fermentation, and was disgorged at a dosage of eight grams per liter.

History of Louis Roederer
Louis Roederer was founded in 1776 by a German wine merchant named Louis Roederer. The house started as a wine shop and became involved in the production of Champagne in the early 19th century. In 1827, Louis Roederer's cousin, Adolphe Roederer, took over the business. Adolphe played a crucial role in the expansion and growth of this producer. He traveled extensively to build relationships with European courts, including the Russian Imperial Court. In 1876, Louis Roederer created the iconic Cristal Champagne. It was originally produced exclusively for the Russian Tsars and was presented in a crystal clear bottle, which is the origin of the name 'Cristal'.
