Description
It should now be abundantly clear that little whitewashing has been done in Burgundy in 2021. But it is now becoming increasingly clear that the wines that have been made are among the greatest made to date. Because many 1er Cru wines have ended up in Bourgogne Blanc or Village wine due to scarcity, it is precisely the 1er Crus and GrandCru's of which very little can be found.
In the 1950s and 1960s, Corton Charlemagne was one of the greatest white wines from Burgundy. They have made a comeback in recent years and Corton Charlemagne is more sought after than ever now that DRC, Bizot, Millemann and Ramonet have bought a piece. The other Cru is the largest you can find in the world in white. (Le) Montrachet. Magical Mythical Wines. With a total size of just under 8 hectares, it is logical that you rarely encounter these wines. 18 owners distribute this white gold. Many do not know that this Grandcru vineyard is located in both Chassagne Montrachet and Puligny Montrachet. The border is somewhere in the middle (to the right of Romanee Conti and to the left of Bouchard). Officially they call the wines from Chassagne “Le Montrachet” and from Puligny “Montrachet”, but few people now put “Le” on the label.
The Louis Latour Montrachet Grand Cru has a clear and light yellow color. The nose is very intense, with aromas of almond, vanilla and honeysuckle. Sufficient, fresh and dense on the palate, with notes of marzipan, again vanilla and juice. Insanely beautiful aftertaste. Suckling ends his review with: ".....Like drinking the purist water. A loss for words"
