2015 in the Ribera del Duero is classified as: VERY EXCELLENT. The 2015 wine year started with a mild winter. At the beginning of spring, especially during the month of April, temperatures were remarkably high, above normal, which visibly accelerated the bud formation of the vineyard. After a mild rest in the spring, the temperatures in July and August were again exceptionally warm, allowing the grapes to ripen well and healthily. Rainfall during this period was below average, but the amount that fell in winter guaranteed the correct development of the phenological state. Harvesting was possible during perfect conditions.

The Casa Rojo Alexander vs. The Ham Factory is a 100% Tinto Fino or Tempranillo and comes from a vineyard in La Horra and Hontoria de Valdearados. The average altitude of the vineyards is between 850 and 900 meters, all in the province of Burgos. The grapes come from old vineyards that are more than 60 years old and up to more than 100 years old. The yields from these old vineyards are very low but the quality is excellent. After manual picking, the wine is aged for 20 months in French oak and then matured in the bottle for a long time. The wine is therefore also classified as a Reserva wine.

The Alexander vs. The Ham Factory Reserva has a beautiful cherry red color. This beautiful Ribera del Duero is very complex and a wine that with time releases a palette of aromas such as black cherries, blackberries and a mineral sensation, accompanied by soft roasted notes. The wine is full bodied with a surprising velvety taste with an unctuous creamy mouthfeel. The wine has a spicy and intense aftertaste. Very polished tannins that provide a lot of length in the mouth. The sum of its parts gives a balanced wine, long and very aromatic on the palate, where we find the essence of the ripe Tempranillo with the aromas typical of French wood aging.

Awards:

ABOUT CASA ROJO

THE MOST IMPORTANT VIRTUE OF A WINE IS BALANCE” LAURA MUÑOZ-ROJO - At Casa Rojo they make wines with which José Luis and Laura feel identified. They have the luck and luxury to be able to produce in the areas where they have their roots and admire with the two grapes they are passionate about: Tinta Fina (Tempranillo) in the continental climate of La Ribera del Duero and the Monastrell in our Mediterranean homeland, Tierra de Murcia. Casa Rojo's vision is clear. “A wine must be a maximum expression of the soil, the grapes, the local climate.”
