The increasing demands on quality for Château Montrose and La Dame de Montrose, together with the increasingly precise selections, make it possible to bring the 2016 vintage to the market. The 3rd version, the Tertio de Montrose. This wine is produced on the exceptional terroir of Château Montrose and is vinified by the teams on site. This is a classic blend of the great Bordeaux grapes namely: Cabernet Sauvignon: 32%, Merlot: 61%, Petit Verdot: 5%, and Cabernet Franc: 2%.

The 2016 vintage was marked by a cool and wet start to the season. The winter was relatively mild. Full bloom took place around June 7. At the end of the month, the summer started characterized by very strong heat from August 15, but due to the abundant rain in the spring, there was no water stress. September was warm and sunny. The rainy days around mid-September restarted the ripening process, which was somewhat delayed by the very strong summer heat and ensured optimal ripeness of the 4 grape varieties. The alternating warm days and cool nights created an impressive balance between freshness and aromatic power. From September 23 to October 14, the harvest took place quietly under a radiant sun. So it's not surprising that the 2016 vintage is one of the best vintages in Bordeaux

This new wine from Château Montrose - the Tertio de Montrose - has an incredibly good price/quality ratio and is only a fraction of the price of its big brother and sister. In the glass the wine has a deep garnet red color. The intense nose reveals spicy notes and a bouquet of fresh fruits and aromas accompanied by toasted and grilled notes. In the mouth the wine feels fresh and elegant and already very drinkable. Full and delicious in the mouth with generous tannins and a great freshness at the end that makes you long for another sip.

FACT: Under the tab: Attachment you will find the official fact sheet and we will send it digitally when you order this wine. It is also worth mentioning that we buy the (Bordeaux) wines directly and never buy through the middlemen because we do not know which journeys the wine has made and how it has been treated. The wines come from the cellars of the Chateau directly in our conditioned Warehouse in Dordrecht where all our wines are stored.

Château Montrose is one of the most prestigious Médoc chateaus. Especially since the wealthy brothers Martin and Olivier Bouygues bought the chateau in 2006 and started a rigorous 'makeover'. They tackled absolutely everything from vineyard to cellar. The team is also being strengthened, including with Hervé Berland, who says goodbye to his position as director at Château Mouton-Rothschild to lead this ambitious project. Quality has skyrocketed ever since and the last few vintages Château Montrose has consistently been among the very best wines in Bordeaux; a great achievement! Part of the major quality improvement is a 'parcelic' approach, in which the vineyard is divided into small pieces, each of which is assessed, vinified and raised separately. The selection options have increased enormously as a result. Such that, in addition to a first and second wine, a third wine has also seen the light.

Chateau Montrose makes powerful wines that have a long life ahead of them. Although very tannic, the elegance and especially intensity is memorable. This one of the very best St. Estèphe wines has the 2nd Grand Cru Class status but could easily compete in the highest 1st Cru class. Since the 1989 harvest, followed by a 100-point score by Robert Parker in 1990, Montrose has earned a worldwide reputation and ranks among the greatest Bordeaux.

Decanted for 2 hours, Earthy, metal smell. Quite fruity and with a pleasant acidity on the finish.

Gelukkig iets minder tannines dan het smaakprofiel belooft. bijzonder lichtvoetig ook nog eens. Veel lekker wordt wijn niet.
