Description
The generosity of Crozes-Hermitage is well known to lovers of the Rhône cru wines based on the noble Syrah grape. The Crozes-Hermitage is located in the Northern Rhône appellation which offers the greatest wealth of expression. In terms of surface area and number of winemakers, it is the primary vineyard area of Cave de Tain (16 times larger than the Hermitage vineyard), where we encounter two types of soils: granite and galets (small surface stones) in infinite combinations:
- gravelly and filtering soils of the Rhône or the Isère in the south
- mainly granite soils in a fresher climate in the north
Crozes-Hermitage extends around the hill of the Hermitage and Cave de Tain has the most beautiful vineyards there. The Crozes-Hermitage has been classified as AOC since 1937 for red and white wines. Important rules are that the alcohol percentage must be at least 10% and the yield may not exceed 45 hectoliters per hectare. The red wine must consist of at least 85% Syrah grape and a maximum of 15% Marsanne and Roussanne. The white wine must be composed of marsanne and roussanne.
The Cave de Tain Les Hauts du Fief Crozes-Hermitage rouge is an intriguing, complex red Rhône wine. With an exciting scent of bacon, blackberries, cassis and some floral. Savory, smoky and earthy. Concentrated, with fine acidity and ripe tannins and as an addition a very long finish. Can age up to 10 years. Ultimate dinner wine. Gourmet enjoyment with grilled meat: duck breast, juicy red meat and lamb chops. When the wine is a bit more aged, also think of game and matured cheeses.

Without a doubt the top in the Hermitage and the Crozes Hermitage. In the Cave de Tain, approximately 370 farmers are united in a company with a vision, a passion for quality and a feeling for the market. In the northern Rhône, they are leading with a share of more than 50% of production. The vineyards are located on the right bank, St. Joseph, Cornas and St. Peray, as well as on the left bank, Crozes Hermitage and Hermitage, of the Rhône and are located a maximum of 20 kilometers from the Cave. For many international winemakers, the wines produced here are the reference for their Syrah production. The crown jewels of the company are its own vineyards on the Hermitage mountain. The steeply terraced vineyards with a granite soil bring out the best in the Syrah grape. International ratings between 90 and 100 points are “normal” for these wines. On the left bank of the Rhône, between Lyon and Valence, the Hermitage hill dominates the Crozes-Hermitage appellation. From north to south, the vineyards of Saint-Joseph, Cornas and Saint-Péray spread out on terraces, on the right bank.
