Description
The origins of Pazo de Barrantes go back to the beginning of the 16th century and since then it has been linked to the Cebrián-Sagarriga family - yes, the same family as the Marques de Murrieta. At Pazo de Barrantes they have embraced a new challenge as a tribute to one of the world's most extraordinary grape varieties, the Albariño and from September 2021 the new Pazo de Barrantes will be on the market. Incomparable to the previous version. The wine has matured for 2 years (more than a year longer than the previous version), had a light wood aging, everything Sur lie so on its lees and the presentation has also been completely changed.
It all starts with the unique terroir with its own 12 hectare vineyard in the heart of the Salnes Valley. Blessed with a unique microclimate, it benefits daily from the hard work and care, expertise, passion and skill of the family. More than 10 years have gone into this new project, starting with the careful care of the vineyards to achieve the optimum health and quality of the grapes. Yields have been seriously reduced and an extensive selection of grapes has been made, both in the vineyards and when they reach the winery. Using a slow, gradual maturation process with very strict quality parameters, the best juice is selected that is suitable for ageing. In fact, in the winery, only the highest quality raw material (the grapes) is handled with the utmost care and minimal intervention takes place. Above all, it is given all the time it needs. As a result, the 2019 vintage has been significantly reduced (more than 40%), resulting in the production of only 95,097 bottles, all of which are now also numbered.
By controlling the fermentation temperature in stainless steel tanks, we can slow down the fermentation and obtain greater purity and aromatic intensity. After two months of contact with the lees, the wine acquires texture, while seven months of rest in the tank improves its balance and harmony. A new ingredient has also been added: wood for a small part of the wine. Approximately 15%, is aged in acacia barrels, which adds volume, complexity and depth. Finally, the bottle aging process has been extended to more than a year and a half, allowing the wine to become fully defined and balanced and express its incredible potential. The finishing touch to the project is the new packaging that best expresses the personality of the new Pazo Barrantes and has opted for a traditional Burgundian bottle with a new label printed on heavy, waterproof cotton paper imitating artisanal printing techniques. The label shows the winery seen from the vineyard. After 30 years, the new Barrantens is baptized as the Gran Vino Pazo de Barrantes 2019.

Pazo de Barrantes is located in the Salnés Valley (Pontevedra), where there are perfect conditions for the growth of Albariño grapes. This impressive Pazo (Galician country house) has been owned by the family of the Count of Creixell since 1511 and rises from the vineyards Pazo de Barrantes is located in the heart of the Rías Baixas and has 30 hectares surrounding historic Pazo. Pazo Barrantes is without doubt one of the flagship wines of the Rías Baixas DO. The Albariño grape grows in the Pazo de Barrantes' vineyard with the famous sea injection. This vineyard provides a lot of aromatic complexity to the wine, thanks to the natural influences on the landscape. The Pazo de Barrantes is the perfect 'sister winery' of Marqués de Murrieta. They complement each other perfectly, Marques is among the top of the Rioja and Pazo de Barrantes the top among the Albarinos. Both the Barrantes Albariño and the scarce La Comtesse are among the absolute top of the Spanish Albariños
