Description
The Avondale Jonty's Ducks Pekin white is a blend of mainly Chenin Blanc supplemented with Roussanne, Viognier & Semillon. The organic vineyards are between 20 to 35 years old vines. After manual picking, the entire bunches are first cooled overnight before they are pressed. The wine is fermented with wild yeast between 18 and 24ºC. Part is fermented in used oak barrels (600 liters) and the rest in stainless steel. In all cases, the wine stays on its lees for a minimum of 6 months with regular batonnage. The results are impressive. Here you can taste pure fruit of lime, grapefruit, pineapple, quince and a small touch of honey. The palate is full of ripe flavors and juicy with tangy peach and brie flavours, delivered with good intensity and freshness. These delicious aromas linger in the mouth for a long time. a delicious wine for now but can also age for a number of years. The Jonty's Ducks Pekin white is delicious with Coquilles St. Jacques with a light beurre blanc finished with some lime zest and is a great accompaniment to spicy food such as an Indian Currie.

Avondale is committed to fair and decent living and working conditions for all employees and you can taste that in their wines. Their fresh, luscious yet elegant organic white is named after the Jonty's Ducks, a group of ducks who do their job here as natural pest controllers. Owner Johnathan Grieve employs a "posse" of ducks who patrol the vineyard in search of snails, which eat the vines. The ducks are an environmentally friendly way of avoiding the use of harmful chemicals and thus serve as the guardians of the
vines on Avondale (see also duck surveillance video)
