Description
Honoro Vera is the new project of the Gil family, who are world famous for their El Nido and Clio wines, but also have very small beautiful domains where the best of the region is brought out on a very small scale. All these wines are all gems. The name Honoro Vera is a tribute to the Gil family where Honoro is the name of Miquel Gil's grandfather and his grandmother's Vera
The Honoro Vera Irreverent Red Blend is a blend of Monastrell –Mourvèdre-, Syrah & Garnacha which has been aged for 4 months in French & American oak barrels. The Syrah vineyard is between 15-20 years old while Monastrell and Garnacha vineyards are between 25-40 years old in goblet or bush vines located in the area known as Término de Arriba at a respectable elevation of 700 and 800 meters above sea level on sandy and calcareous soils. Yields are relatively low with very small and highly concentrated berries and very thick skins to withstand the extreme climate (very cold winters and hot and drier summers). Each variety is fermented separately for 10 days with the skins in stainless steel tanks that do not exceed a temperature of 24 degrees, so the wines get a very nice extraction that takes the best out of the thick skins.
The Honoro Vera Irreverent Red Blend is a distinctive wine. The wine is delicate yet expressive with flavors of ripe plums and figs. The creamy texture has good density, clear acidity, integrated tannins, a spicy and a surprisingly long finish. Now all Honoro Vera's wines are of excellent quality, but this is the topper in the series in our humble opinion. Great price/quality.
