Description
Pouilly-Fumé takes its name from Pouilly-sur-Loire, the heart of the AOC, and 'Fumé', literally 'smoked', referring to the local name of the Sauvignon Blanc, 'blanc fumé'. The term fumé refers here to the ash-grey colour of the leaves of the Sauvignon Blanc. Pouilly-Fumé wines are generally dry, fresh and balanced, floral and fruity, with a striking minerality in which 'silex' (flint) can often be recognised. Since the end of the eighteenth century, the Lafond family has owned the largest and most renowned vineyards of Pouilly Fumé. After a challenging period during the French Revolution, the efforts of Comte Lafond were continued by his great-grandson Baron Patrick de Ladoucette.
Since the end of the eighteenth century, the Lafond family has owned the largest and most renowned vineyards of Pouilly Fumé. After a challenging period during the French Revolution, the efforts of Comte Lafond were continued by his great-grandson Baron Patrick de Ladoucette. The Baron added a rare cuvée to the range; Baron de L. This wine is recognized as one of the best Sauvignon wines in the world. A wine that is only made in the best vintages. The vineyards are located in Pouilly-Fumé Contrôlée, including Pouilly-sur-Loire, Saint-Andelain and Tracy-sur-Loire on the eastern side of the Loire Valley (including the vineyard of the Château du Nozet estate). The grapes here are grown on Vieilles vignes, vines that are at least 40 years old.
The soil of the Pouilly Fumé vineyards is partly composed of marl (from the Kimméridgian period) and rich in clay overlying a layer of limestone and shells and another part that is clayey flint, a very old soil dating back to the first and second Jurassic periods (145 million years old). The average age of the vines is between 25 and 35 years old.
After the manual harvest, only the juice from the first pressing is used. The harvest from different plots is vinified separately. After fermentation in tank, a process follows that makes this Pouilly Fumé so special. The wine rests on the "lees" (mushroom) for three to six months. After this, the wines from the best plots are assembled and then rest together for another eight to ten months on the "lees". The old vines, the unique soil and the special vinification process give this Ladoucette Baron de L Pouilly-Fumé an extremely elegant, rich and aromatic character. This wine is recognized for its finesse and exceptional aromatic power and can be found on the tables of the biggest stars and in the most beautiful cellars in the world.
A wonderful gastronomic and elegant wine. Very suitable to enjoy as such, but also perfect with goat cheese, shellfish and oriental cuisine.

Since the end of the eighteenth century, the Lafond family has owned the largest and most renowned vineyards of Pouilly Fumé. After a challenging period of the French Revolution, Comte Lafond's efforts are continued by his great-grandson Baron Patrick de Ladoucette. From more than 100 hectares of vineyards on silex soils and pure limestone soils in Pouilly Fumé and Sancerre, Ladoucette makes its best-known white wines, which are considered world references of Sauvignon wines.
