Château de Santenay is one of the largest wine estates in Burgundy. The imposing castle dates back to the 9th century and was owned by Philippe le Hardi, Duke of Burgundy, for part of the 14th century. He was the one who wrote a decree that formed the basis of monovarietal wine growing in Burgundy, which resulted in the use of Pinot Noir instead of Gamay. Château de Santenay owns 90 hectares of vineyards, divided between the Côte d'Or and the Côte Chalonnaise. In total, they produce wine in 14 appellations, including Mercurey, Aloxe-Corton, Santenay, Pommard and Saint-Aubin. The château has been Terra Vitis certified since 2004.

These 100% Pinot Noir Bourgogne grapes are matured in oak barrels. In the glass, the Santenay Bourgogne Pinot Noir Vieilles Vignes has a deep, sparkling ruby red color. The nose is medium expressive and has notes of red berries, blackberries and some herbs. The taste is refined, with rounded tannins, the wine comes across as elegant and balanced. Until mid-2021, the name of the domain was 'Château de Santenay'. Due to a change in the legislation in Burgundy in 2021, the name of the Santenay appellation is no longer permitted as a domain name. That is why the name has been changed to 'Château Philippe le Hardi'.

FACT: The wine is in our conditioned Wine Warehouse and if you come to pick up the wine you will also receive a nice discount. We are almost next to the Rijksweg with plenty of parking. Click here for address.
