Biondi Santi is one of the most outstanding producers of Brunello wine. Biondi Santi has been one of Tuscany's leading wine producers for over 150 years and is considered the "Founder of Brunello di Montalcino". Due to the microclimate and geological development of this area over the years, the hills around Montalcino are one of the oldest and most perfect areas of Italy to make beautiful quality wines.

In the 16th century Montalcino was already famous for their wonderful wines. However, Montalcino didn't get real fame until after the Brunello was made. This happened for the first time in 1888. The first Brunello wines were made by Ferruccio Biondi Santi. He has further developed the work of his grandfather Clemente Santi, one of the leading winemakers of the time. He developed a clone of the Sangiovese grape, called Sangiovese Grosso. This new grape was developed in the vineyard called "Greppo". Brunello wines from 1888 can still be found in the cellars of Biondi Santi. In September 1994, a large group of wine journalists were invited to taste the "old but beautifully matured" wines from the cellars of the domain. Even the Brunello from 1891 (103 years old) was rated with 10 points, the highest rating.
